Approved Trucking is seeking an experienced Transportation/Dispatch Manager to join our growing team in City of Industry. Job Summary: The Transportation/Dispatch Manager will oversee the dispatch operation of our local pickup, delivery, and drayage services, ensuring the efficient and timely movement of containers to and from ports and customer locations. This role involves managing and coordinating with drivers, and liaising with customers to maintain high service standards and operational efficiency. The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $85,000/yr
Duties and Responsibilities: Drayage Operations: - Extensive knowledge of all LB/LA port terminals and their corresponding appointment systems database.
- Confirm port, rail, and customer work order information have the same information.
- Confirm all information at port and rails are updated to pick-up or receive import/export containers.
- Familiar with UIIA, Emodal and Pier A rules & regulations.
- Knowledgeable with port terminal terminology and schedules and procedures.
- Managing operation of steady routes; dispatching and scheduling appointments with terminals, pick-ups, and drop-offs.
- Complete oversight of our drivers and daily terminal operations.
- Verify all export boards on Profit Tools are updated with the most recent first receiving date, cut-off date, last free date, empty container pick-up/return depot, etc.
Trucking Operations:
- Dispatch and support drivers.
- Improve truck utilization through backhauls and managing hours of service.
- Effectively route drivers to ensure efficient, timely service to customers.
- Review and process paperwork daily.
- Review driver’s daily log sheet ensuring compliance with hours of service and accuracy.
- Review driver’s daily inspection reports.
- Assist drivers with issues that may arise, making the decision to call management or customers.
- Keep daily inspection reports on file.
- Review driver trip reports for accuracy and addressing discrepancies.
- Perform office administrative duties and other duties.
- Work closely with operations/logistics to ensure adequate capacity to cover all volume including seasonal surges and ad-hoc needs.
- Notify customers of any shipping delays proactively.
- Oversee and complete accurate billing to clients based on established pricing while ensuring accurate costs and profits are maintained.
Operational Metrics:
- Monitoring budget while diagnosing and improving processes and procedures to ultimately improve performance and profitability.
- Knowledge and execution of DOT and OSHA regulations and the ability to operate in compliance with these regulations as well as within company guidelines.
- Ensure that appropriate contractual relationships exist with all carriers and brokers.
- Support the development of budgets, controls, and measurements to monitor progress, including service-level agreements. Ensure proper accounting treatment is attained and report status to appropriate stakeholders.
- Mastery of transportation management systems/supply chain technology, load boards and DAT.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare strong business cases and to support and defend ideas and positions.
- Proven change management skills and reputation for building and leading high-performing, cross-functional teams that achieve their goals; track record in attracting, developing, and retaining talent.
- A champion of new initiatives with an ability to successfully work across different groups, and to execute by bridging functional and divisional silos.
- Negotiate shipping rates for approval by upper management.
- Provide quotes, take pick-up requests, route, and book freight as needed.

Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of port - drayage dispatching experience and operations in the trucking industry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience with transportation procurement and carrier selection required.
- Experience with negotiations and contracts for all modes of transportation (truckload, LTL drayage, and intermodal).
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
