TITLE : Supermarket Service Manager
HOURS PER WEEK: Fluctuating workweek with hours not to be less than forty (40) in any workweek.
WORKWEEK: Hours are to be completed in a schedule to be determined by the store manager to suit the needs of the store. Weekends, nights and holidays may be included in scheduled hours.
JOB SUMMARY: Assists store manager by providing leadership and direction to all employees. Continually works to maintain above average staff performance including, but not limited to the areas of hospitality and accurate and efficient guest transactions and assistance. Aids in maintaining a safe, welcoming and comfortable shopping environment for guests. Executes and upholds company policies and procedures as outlined in employee handbook.
ASSISTS STORE MANAGER IN THE FOLLOWING RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
· Promotes effective two-way communication with customers and all store employees, identifies areas needing improvement and develops programs and methods to cultivate customer goodwill, positive staff interaction and promote team work and high morale. Empowers employees to handle customer complaints properly and professionally.
· Continually upholds company hospitality standards and ensures employee compliance with company policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook.
· Aids in maintaining optimal store operations, store conditions and appearance.
· At the direction of the store manager, keeps aware and complies with all federal, state and local laws and regulations governing the operation of the store. Keeps department managers and others in the store abreast of all legal requirements. Promotes diversity and an equal opportunity environment.
· Assists in maintaining company safety, fire and sanitation programs to ensure for the safety and well being of all customers and employees. Maintains an orderly and clean store. Ensures that all equipment is maintained in clean and good working condition and all merchandise and product is fresh by performing routine spot checks. Communicates important safety information, investigates complaints and performs physical inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, sanitation requirements and other company standards.
· Provides leadership through example by effective performance and by maintaining a neat and well groomed appearance, ensuring employees do the same. Sets the standards that provide for a positive, safe and exciting store environment. Conducts performance appraisals. If the work performance of employees falters, is responsible for counseling, training or retraining of employees and if necessary administers appropriate discipline, consistent with company standards. Provides positive feedback as appropriate.
· Manages break times for all employees to best suit the needs of the business by setting break schedule and ensuring such break schedule is followed.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
· Strong understanding of all phases of store operations in a retail environment, including without limitation, punctual and reliable attendance.
· Must possess excellent communication skills (both oral and written), good leadership and interpersonal skills.
· Must have basic math skills to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, gross margins, markups, percentages and volume.
· Capable in using computers and programs such as Word, Excel and email.
· Requires knowledge of interviewing techniques
KEY HOLDING RESPONSIBILIT I ES:
Employee may be given any and all keys necessary to open, close and manage the store, (the “Keys”).
After Employee has Keys:
Employee will be given an alarm code for the proper activation and de-activation of the alarm system.
Employee will be responsible for opening and / or closing the store as scheduled by properly following opening and closing procedures.
Employee has been trained by the Supervisor to follow opening and closing procedures.
Employee must report any problems with Keys or alarm functions immediately to the Supervisor.
Alarm Code is to be kept CONFIDENTIAL.
Keys are to be kept in employee’s sole and absolute possession while employed by the Company (i.e. keys are not to be left in a lock or loaned to another employee)
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working environment consists of walking the store frequently to keep updated on store conditions and to interact with customers and employees.
Employee has no physical condition which will inhibit employee from carrying out tasks necessary to complete employee’s job description which may include, without limitation, stock work and lifting objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
